I love salads, I eat a salad almost every day! They healthy, quick to make and there are so many various possibilities to create a great salad, you don’t even need lettuce in every salad! When I was strolling around the food market in Florence I found a nice white radish. I like the white radish ’cause it’s usually not as spicy as the small red ones are. I thought about making a salad with the radish, even thought afterwards I found out that it tastes just as good if you cook it!
I love all kinds of exotic foods and I am always open to try new things. Today I decided to make the famous British-Indian fusion dish Chicken Tikka Masala but instead of the chicken I made a Veggie Masala. Those spices in Indian foods are super delicious and I love them all as long as it’s not too spicy. One of my favorite restaurants in my area in Germany is an Indian restaurant. It is quite pricy but it is worth it. Unfortunately the choice for vegetarians is not that big, so I usually choose the one with spinach and paneer cheese. I wrote a blog post about that dish as well a few months ago, it is called Palak Paneer. You can check it out here. If I understood right, Tikka is Chicken and Masala is the Sauce which consists of various spices and a tomato- yoghurt mix.
The famous green Smoothie! Pinterest is full of green juices and smoothies. Some people are really grossed out by this healthy delicious drink, some love it that much, they drink it like others love their morning coffee. I have to admit until today I haven’t actually tried a green smoothie before. I like pretty much every kind of smoothie or juice if it’s healthy, so I was sure I would like a green smoothie as well, I just don’t like to spend 5 Euro on a drink outside and at home I prefer to eat the fruit instead of making smoothies out of them. But I thought I give it a try, since the ingredients for a green smoothie are also a lot cheaper than for example a red one with berries etc.
I am always looking out for new things to try when cooking, especially for healthy ingredients. Even though I have been eating Quinoa before, it was quite a long time ago and I have to say I wasn’t really remembering how it tasted. Quinoa is not the cheapest thing to buy over here, rice is a lot cheaper but I thought I give it a try and it turned out that I really like it! It is also super quick to make and you can eat it in many different ways. You can make it as a cold salad, you can make it as a hot dish, as a stew or even in a soup.
This Creamy Prawn Pasta is a bit of a fancier kind of pasta. Usually I make pasta when I don’t have many ingredients at home and want to cook something quick. It was quite a coincidence that I got prawns, because I don’t get them that often, since they are pretty pricy here in Italy. These prawns actually are from the little grocery store in Ikea. I am always tempted to buy the huge package of smoked salmon from there but I never actually do it because I would probably struggle to finish it before it gets bad.
Since Europe got hit by a cold wave these days, I felt like autumn is back and wanted to make some soups. At my local market I found some squash. My mum used to make a delicious squash soup with Hokaido squash. It was one of my favorite dishes around autumn. In general I would say Hokaido squash is my favorite kind of all the squashes.
Boiled eggs, fried eggs, scrambled eggs…I love eggs. Preferably with a runny egg yolk. I nevertheless don’t buy eggs that often. So when I get them I am really happy, it is like a little treat for me. This time I made an egg shakshuka. I made it in a moroccan tajine dish but you can also just do it in a regular pan. I also love anything with tomatoes or tomato sauce, so this is a perfect dish for everyone who loves a tomato and egg dish. It is also really simple and quick to make. You can have it for breakfast, lunch or dinner…practically at any time of the day.
Today’s recipe is a healthy and delicious Chick Pea Coconut Curry. I never really knew what to make with chick peas, usually I don’t find them that tasty but in this version I really like them. AND they are healthy, which is always an important factor for food! I used a variety of vegetables and coconut milk for the sauce. I love coconut milk! For the non vegetarians on here, you could add some chicken to it, I am sure that would taste nice!
I love my sweets! I can hardly survive one day without anything sweet to eat. In Germany we eat quite a lot of cakes and pastries and I have to say Germans just know how to bake! But everyone loves different things and has a different taste, as always. Since I don’t own an oven here in Italy I unfortunately can’t bake any delicious cakes, which really really upsets me! There are so many afternoons I just crave a freshly baked piece of cake….it is depressing!
Today I came home suuuuper hungry but didn’t feel like just eating a sandwich or salad. I wanted something cooked and one of the quickest things for me to cook is pasta. So I decided to make a quick Mac and Cheese pasta dish. You don’t need many ingredients and very little time to cook the sauce. I think the Homemade Mac and Cheese turned out really well and it tastes a hundred times better than the versions you can buy at the store
